The race will be Makepeace's last appearance in a Butler uniform, capping an incredible career as a Bulldog on both the track and cross country course. He led the Butler trio of Keane and Simon Bedard to record-breaking times, as well. Makepeace is the current school record-holder in the 5,000-meter, setting the standard at 13:30.55 at the Oregon Relays invite-only race in April of this year. The redshirt senior from Loughborough, United Kingdom advanced out of the East Regional with a time of 13:41.21, good for fourth-place overall, which is also his seeding in the championship field. The event is a one-section final at the championships set for the evening on Friday, June 11. Makepeace last advanced to the national championships in the event in 2017, finishing 24 th overall. Makepeace will make his much anticipated return the NCAA field in the men's 5,000-meter. Oregon, BYU, Minnesota and Michigan are the other programs with a representative in both genders of the race. The Bulldogs are also one of five teams in the nation to have both a men's and women's qualifier in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Stanford, Iowa State, BYU and BIG EAST foe Georgetown are the only other schools to have at least one student-athlete qualify in all three.
